Pets Pets Pets!

Since the release of the advanced pet system, everyone has been gripped with farming fever!  I'm sure most of you knew this already, and for those of you who didn't, which rock have you been calling home recently?

My Pet List to Farm is really a help for me to keep track of what's what and who drops whom.  It has been a blessing, and a tool for many people to use.  Many users of this page will likely notice the removal of the Myth Treat, War Helephant, and Death Minotaur.  The reason behind this is simple, they have not been verified in the game since test went live.  If anyone has information pertaining to these pets as drops please let us know!  I'm only using information from Central to keep my list and so far those have been removed and marked as HYRBID ONLY more or less.

In other news, my farming has been slowing down and I'm taking time to train pets.  Health Gift is an amazing talent that I hope some of your pets manifest!  My Talented Piggle is giving me +1 health for ever 2-3 minigames I play, so lets hope this is the same for everyone :D

Last but not least, I am adding another poll to my blog.  Do you think the Fizzle rates have seemed to skyrocket since the APS (Advanced Pet System) went live?  Let me know what you think!  Oh, and coming soon will be a joint presentation of some thoughts for noobs (sorry, it's really a term of endearment-let's go with that-) and how KI can deal with the plague of noobs swarming our farming grounds in the Plaze of Conquests and beyond.  The other member of this feature presentation will be announced soon :D

Have fun in the spiral guys, and check back often.  Don't forget to vote in the poll located that way -->

New Pets

Greetings fellow wizards!  John Lifeglen here with the first real post since getting my new router :D.  Right after getting the new router up and running I managed to snag a Storm Serpent from Clanker.  That's right guys, Storm Serpent has been dropped from the Pets to Farm list.  Unfortunately, aside from the Myth Sprite from Rattlebones, that is the only new pet I have received.

I've farmed and farmed and farmed and got nothing.  I was farming with Edward at Boris Blackrock for the Fire Serpent and guess who got it...not me!  Edward got one though so it wasn't a total waste of time :)

Then we headed off to the Coven with Heather Emeraldflame and Edward and Edward's friend Connor.  That was a lot of fun and that's what I'm doing right now.  Heather got lucky and managed to get the Silverback Wildclaw on her first go today...I have no idea how many she has now lol.  She commented she could start a farm with them though!

Well, I'm gonna head back to farming.  Keep it real guys and have fun!

Your Friend Always,
John Lifeglen

My LIVE Pet Sanctuary

Now that test has FINALLY [thank you KI!!!] gone live, I can unveil my pet sanctuary AKA the Lifeglen Pet Habitat (Habit at for those of you without open chat lol).  I have some friends over to show it off and took some screenshots with a very enthusiastic Shawna Roseblossom.  She is pictured in the white in most of these pictures.  Lets get the picture train moving!

PS. The Lifeglen Pet Habitat is the old Lifeglen storage warehouse, and the furniture inside is a reflection of this.  Over time, the Pet Habitat will be transformed into something even better.  Then again, Industrial is kind of cool :)

Here is a picture of Shawna and I in the "dangerous" pet area.  By dangerous I mean dangerous to those who are deathly afraid of spiders.
Here is Cassandra Hexthorn, Shawna, and myself posing with some life pets down around the lake by the trees.  They sure look happy there!
And what about my cute little puppies...erm...uh...I meant to say guard dogs lol/  Check out Storm hound howling at the sky!
Here is the Haunted Village, perfect for all of my ghostly pets.  You can see the Pale Maiden, but can you spot the other 3?  I really can't wait for the ghost hound so the undead here can have a pet of their own!
Here is Cassandra again hanging out with my ghouls.  They are a little hard to see in this picture :/.  And check out who visited me for the picture!
Here is the bodyguard section right at the entrance/exit of the Pet Habitat.  Check out the Green Chat Thug!  Right by the door are a Damp Demon and a Jade Oni, getting ready to greet everyone.

Let me know what you think about the Lifeglen Pet Habitat.  If you have any questions about housing items be sure to shoot me an e-mail and I'll try and get back to you ASAP.  Also, keep a watch on my pet farming page, I'll need all of the help I can get soon!

John Lifeglen

Are Advanced Pets Coming?

This just in from Wizard101 Login screen:

Wizard101 Extended Maintenance
Wizard101 the game will be offline tonight
from 1:00am to 7:00am Central US Time
to prepare the Live game for the Advanced Pets feature.
During this time, players will be unable to log in to the game, and active players will be prompted to log out.
This downtime may be extended without notice.

Could this possibly be the release we have all been anticipating?  Or is this simply preparation for the big day?  It does say TO PREPARE but what does this really mean for us?  Bloggers be ready!

Experiments in Test = FAIL :(

I was able to test the theory from my last post early this morning when test was functioning again.  The results are in and...um...it's not what I expected.  I'd love some feedback from other experimentors as to whether or not this is a common thing.  Here's what happened:

I bred my Spotted Piggle with Dragonblade and pedigree of 58 with Cody's Ice Colossus of pedigree of 54.  After waiting for the 5 minute hatch time to be up, both of us received the gift card pet.  No Ice Colossus for me :(.  Oh well, maybe I just got "lucky" by receiving the higher pedigree pet with a *cough* lower pedigree than before...only 57 on the child.  This was expected as I bred with a lower pedigree, and it only fell by one.  Oh well, now we know that my theory fails.

Please continue to test it though, it did work with the Danger Hound combo with a Jade Helephant.  Let's get some comments on this with your results please!

Excitement!

My last post that sounded...um, how do I word this delicately...less than astounded *sure we'll go with that* about how the promo pets were breeding.  Things are looking up, however.  An unknown wizard asked me to hatch with her Jade Oni pet yesterday and I used my Danger Hound, Sir Winston, in a small experiment.  What I was astounded to see was that I got a death egg (necromatic) which resulted in my Ghost Hound.

Better news still-I asked my unknown hatching mate what kind of egg she got and she reported necromatic, very happily I might add.  It appears as though KingIsle listened to my "complaint" or at the very least I was wrong.  If the latter is the case, I apologize profusely KI.  I didn't mean to step on any toes.

So what have I learned?  I learned that the appearance of the pet with a lower pedigree is likely the one to manifest...I think.  Well, if was a promo pet so it's special hybrid offspring is what resulted.  This leads me to believe that anyone can get any hybrid so long as they have a friend with a copy of the parent (eg. Pioneer Dragon for Frontier Dragon, Shardtail Dragon for Fragmented Dragon, FOG Unicorn for Grove Unicorn, etc.) and that "anyone" as formerly stated has a pet with a higher pedigree than the promo pet.

Example time!!! I love this part of the program where everything finally starts to make sense.  I'll use a friend of mine in an example.  Angela Dragonflame wants a Ghost Hound, but lacks a Danger Hound.  I'll use Sir Winston (pedigree of 35) with her Jade Oni (pedigree of 53).  The appearance Sir Winston is likely the one to manifest, but because he is *special* he cannot have kids that look like him.  Ghost Hound results for both parties.  YAY!

Example 2.  I want a Frontier Dragon but lack a Pioneer.  My friend Rylee has a Pioneer (Pedigree of 58...)  If Rylee uses her Pioneer with my Crimson Spectre from Pet Derby rewards (Pedigree of 60...maybe...test is full and I can't check atm :( ), the Frontier Dragon is the appearance likely to manifest strictly because it's pedigree is lower.

This is only a hypothesis at the time being, but I would appreciate feedback all the same!

John Lifeglen

Promotional Pet Hybrids

The following is what I just posted over on Wizard101 Central.

"Professor Greyrose resolved a previous, ahem, discussion about the ability of promotional pets and their ability to be hatched by people who did not earn them. People valiantly picked a side and all but violently defended that side. In the end, promo pets lost the ability to be created via hatching. At least, their physical appearance was never allowed to be manifested in that way ever again. Ok, you guys earned them, I can understand and respect that. Now though, it appears as though only through hatching 2 of the same promotional pet (eg. 2 pioneer dragons, 2 shardtail dragons, 2 FOG Unicorns, 2 danger hounds, etc, etc...) can a special hybrid be created, not just by using one promotional and another pet who may not be so special. Wasn't the point to let your friends have some special pets, too?

My point being this. By only letting 2 promotional pets make a hybrid pet, that is basically saying congratulations on getting this pet, here have another that only you can get. It isn't exactly fair to limit these awesome hybrids such as the Frontier Dragon, Fragmented Dragon, Grove Unicorn, and Ghost Hound to only the people that already have one of their parents. We need to allow hatching between promotional pets and normal pets to still create these amazing hybrids to level the playing field and let younger players still experience these pets.

Forgive me if this sounds like a rant, it was never meant to be one, but I needed to get the word out and this was the best way I could think of."

Now I turn to the blogging community to give me an opinion on this.  This is being looked at now through the (blindfolded...) eyes of a Sorcerer.  What do you see through the eyes of other schools?  Should this be kept the same?  Or should we find a reasonable solution to allow anyone a shot at these amazing pets?  Use the link to central to make your voices heard there, too! Don't forget to vote in the poll here though!

Pet Updates

I absolutely love the upcoming Advanced Pet System.  It really seems like it'll be a good time.  Sure the mini-games to train our precious pet companions will be a bit redundant after a while but totally worth it.  The amazing farmers over at Wizard101 Central are really working hard to find out everything you could ever want to know about new pets.  Some are even conducting breeding experiments under the watchful eyes of Dr. Purreau.

What do you think will be the most enjoyable part of the new pet system?  Will you spend money to breed pets?  Comment away to share your thoughts!
