Sky Commander!

Yep, you all read that right! I, Eccentric Austin Ornsley, have achieved the level of 50 (Sky Commander) in Pirate101 and cleared out my quest book. I need to go make final sweeps of some areas to see if quests have opened up, because I'm still missing Chapters 8, 9, 11 and 12 Sidequest Completion badges (and 3, but that one has been confirmed to be bugged).  I'm also Nautical level 48 and am flying The Wakeful Spectre, my Royal Navy Galleon. Now my goal is to train my first page of companions all to level 50. That's going to take some time. Who wants a few pictures? Yes? Ok. I promise, I won't show any high-leveled story-relevant companions (in this post) to avoid spoiling too much. I make no promises about side quest companions or showing off promoted forms of story-relevant companions, though!

My current First Mate.  She's a level 52 Seashbuckler Ninja Cat named Shiriku Neko.

Kan Po, the Witchdoctor Starter Companion in my colors at Tier 2. Promoted at level 46 to this form. He's AMAZING. I recommend giving him Flanking!!

Dead Mike, my Presidio Companion. He's a Buccaneer.  Poor guy keeps falling apart more the higher I promote him.

Mormo, my Kraken Skulls Bar Brawl Companion. His mask keeps getting more elaborate as he promotes higher. I see players using his staff and have heard it's from Chumba Wumba. I may have to farm some if/when stitching comes around.

The lovable Bonnie Anne, reading to kick troggy tail and take names. She's a Fox Sniper after the second promotion and is often referred to as a Machine Gun Companion.

Old Scratch. Do I really need to say any more? Oh, yeah, I do. Make sure to grab Improved Mojo Blast 2 to turn his damage from an X to a 3x3 square. (That goes for Mormo, too).

Ratbeard! He's also Tier 2 (second promotion). I liked his Tier 1 hat better...

Time to plug some bundles! Handsome Dan is the adorable little Bulldog Privateer from the Admiral's Bundle. He's incredible (and is pictured at Tier 2).

Laughin' Mack Sharkley is a taste of what you get from the Cutthroat Bundle (though I think his name is randomly generated at redemption). This is his Tier 2 look.

Kung Yao, Privateer Oni Destroyer. He's from a side quest in MooShu. Name is random, I think.

Smart Bart Lester, Swashbuckler Cat Pirate from the Boochbeard Bundle at Tier 1.

So Po, my Swashbuckler Pig from the Mailer promotion. Watch this space -- I'll have a brief contest for ONE Ninja Pig soon, hopefully. *UPDATE* One Amber Firesword has won the pig! Congratulations, Amber!

My ship, the Wakeful Spectre, moored at my Castaway Cove.

Feel free to ask me any and all questions about the Witchdoctor class and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. Also look out for the Witchdoctor Edition of "From the Crow's Nest" over at Pieces of Eight Radio next Wednesday, 11/14/2012, at 8:45 CST. I'm being interviewed.

Pirate101 Updates

Hey-o Spirates. Eccentric Austin Ornsley here with some riveting news. I've finally made it out of Cool Ranch (for now...) and am adventuring in Port Regal. I've earned every sidequest completion badge along the way (except Chapter 3...which seems to be bugged or there's a quest hiding VERY well).  I just bought a new ship, the Dauntless Spectre (a level 26 Ship for pirates level 24+ of Royal Navy origin).

In other news, my crew just won't stop growing and I love it. Companions are awesome, and while many people would love to trim their crew down to around 5-6 companions to play with I find myself wanting more and more variety. It adds more depth to the gameplay. This was taken a while ago, but it pictures Moresco de Valvida and I outside of the Phule fight. I had just won Phule's mask and Moresco was my newest crew member (and is still my Firstmate). Isn't he precious?

If you all aren't playing Pirate101 you really should be. Hopefully I'll see ya in the Spiral!

Your in Piracy,
Eccentric Austin Ornsley

Which Witch is Which?

Soo.....Hey-o guys! This is long overdue. I'll go ahead and tell you all that I caved and opted to make my first toon a Witchdoctor by the name of Eccentric Austin Ornsley. I maintain that I never got my acceptance letter to Ravenwood, so I left Krokotopia to become a pirate.  If you see me running around, don't hesitate to say hello. Be warned that I'm not adding tons of random people because I've got so many people already on my list.

I have not bought a bundle yet. I'm still debating on getting a Boochbeard Bundle, and even if I do, it won't be until after my next payday (Wednesday the 24th). Currently, I'm crowning my way through the game and have just made it to the Isle of Doom. Ratbeard and Bonnie Anne have both been promoted. I'm rocking purple and green, and my crew has never looked better.

Oh, and the Pioneer's Eyepatch. It's awesome. I keep seeing it at a slight angle (that doesn't show the strap) and thinking it's this thing called an Eye Drive from the best British Import to the US EVER (Doctor Who).

Well, that's about it. Oh, and I'm a Tubthumper. See you all on the flipside.

Your Comrade in Piracy,
Eccentric Austin Ornsley

Crowd-funded Chaos

First of all, I want to come right out and say that the opinions stated on my blog are not the views of Ravenwood Radio, Pieces of 8 Radio, or any other official fansite. My opinions are solely mine, and while I help out occasionally in different roles in the community, these views are not to be taken as anything more than that. I speak for no one else on this blog, capiche?

In other news, Through the Eyes of a Privateer is soon to be no more, I think. It will be far easier to maintain if I incorporate the stuff over here. I have more readers here and it takes me less time to manage different aspects of stuff if it's all in one place. And as a college student, saving time is a great thing.  Now for the meat of the post.

KingsIsle has announced the launch of two bundles to herald the coming of their new game, Pirate101. Both bundles include a year subscription as well as exclusive goodies. One of the bundles, for $59.99, is called the Gandry Bundle and nets you a year subscription, 1 week head start, and a Scarakeet pet. The other, the Boochbeard Bundle (at a whopping $89.99), nets you everything from Gandry along with Castaway's Cove (House), a Ruby Slicer weapon, Dread Pirate Gear, and a Parrot Mount...oh, and Beta access for the remainder of Beta.

Fine, great, woohoo. Awesome stuff. I'd have loved to see similar bundled available for those who had planned to take the Crown method (rather than the year membership, provide 60,000 Crowns...they're worth the same amount on a sale as it is). That's not why I'm writing today, either, though.

KingsIsle has opted to allow players to "ask" (beg) family/friends to help fund a Boochbeard Bundle via Facebook. Yes, the social media giant has now stepped into crowd-funding. While I'm fine with crowd-funding in general (Kickstarter projects are GREAT!), asking for money from people to help one person get a perk is kind of irritating and a bit disgusting to me. Asking parents is one thing. Asking your friends from school to throw a few nickels your way just really rubs me the wrong way. And don't get me started should you choose to share your Facebook page via Twitter or other social platforms to ask complete strangers that you know in-game to help you pay for it.

Brilliant marketing move, KI. Really, the amount of people sharing pages will lead to a lot more exposure for them. Even those who don't help poor little Jimmy fund his bundle will still see news about the game.

What do you all think? Is Crowd-funding for an individual a direction we want to move in? How about if that individual is basically a stranger? Your thoughts, as usual, are welcome in the comments section and via email. Please make sure to ask an adult for permission, as always.

Some Food for Blogger-y Thought

Hey-o! Dropping in to let everyone know that I'm still alive. I've been playing with my Nexus 7 lately and haven't exactly been keeping up with posting (though there is an app for that). Anywho, on to business. It occurred to me earlier that all blogs have readers. And that, even though it's all one big community, not everyone reads all of the same people. A great way to share your favorite blogs is with a blogroll (which I have, along the right side and a bit under all of the announcement-y type stuff). Unfortunately, not everyone wants to go scrolling through a blogroll on a regular basis. I propose the following:

Write up a blog post about another blog (either a general "hey, go check this out!" to your readers, an interview with the other blog owner, whatever.) and post it. Do this as often as you like, and it's even better if it's mutual. Who doesn't like getting extra traffic, right? If you contact the person you're talking about, they might even be willing to post something about you and get YOU some extra traffic from their audience.

Hopefully this has inspired some of you to spread the community love and get extra traffic all around.

Your Friend Always,
John Lifeglen

Hall Monitors

Two posts in two days? I promise, I'm not sick. Hope all is going well for everyone. I'm here today to discuss the Hall Monitors that will be appearing in-game as of tomorrow morning.

From the Patch Notes:

Something we take very seriously at KingsIsle is making sure that the Spiral is a fun and appropriate place for Players of all ages.  We are expanding our current reporting tools for a select group of players who have earned the privilege of being a “Hall Monitor”. This group of players will operate anonymously and anyone claiming to be a Hall Monitor is certainly not one at all.

These Hall Monitors, who are selected by invitation only, will have the ability to take direct action when they see behavior that violates our Terms of Use. This action includes warning and muting players who circumvent our chat filters. These sanctions will be reviewed by our senior Wizards to ensure the correct action was taken, and may escalate sanctions as necessary.

Hall Monitors are not to be confused with other player run reporting groups and while we appreciate their initiative, we'll take it from here. We will continue to be diligent to keep the Spiral a clean and safe place for all our young Wizards.

Let's hope that those selected are truly deserving and won't abuse power (and should they be discovered to be abusing the power, that they have action taken against them directly by KingsIsle).

Your Friend Always,
John Lifeglen

Uh, Hello...?

So, hi everyone. Sorry it's been over a month since a left an update here. I've still be fairly active on Twitter, but life has gotten in the way once again. My third year of college is starting to pick up and I've been Beta testing P101 (hence no news of Test Realm antics). I can tell you all that my name for P101 will be Witty John Loughton, and that he'll be a privateer. For more information on that stuff you'll have to check Through the Eyes of a Privateer, though.

I can also tell you all that I'm moderating Pieces of Eight Radio on a regular basis now. And that I bought a Nexus 7 Tablet and love it. I'm contemplating modifying my name on Words with Friends to allow for more people to play. That's up in the air right now.

Anyway, I have class in the morning so I should be turning in soon. Hope to talk to you all soon. And for more information on me, check the sidebar to see about my Twitter shenanigans.

Beta!

Hey there gang! Just wanted to drop everyone a line. The cat is officially out of the bag and Closed Beta has launched...and I'm setting sail for adventure in it! I'm currently keeping on the down low because I don't want everyone to know the awesome name I've chosen for myself yet. Maybe I'll still be John Lifeglen. Maybe I'll be [redacted] or [redacted]. Who knows? You'll all know once things go LIVE! And oh how I can't wait for them to go LIVE! You all are going to absolutely LOVE the new game. Here's a brief summary of my adventures so far.

I started out as a [redacted] on [redacted] talking to [redacted] about [redacted]. I went to talk to [redacted] about [redacted] and [redacted] and met [redacted]. I played in [redacted] and am now in [redacted].*

Welp, that's all for now, folks!

Your Friend in Piracy Always,
[redacted].

*When things go Live I might come back and edit all of the annoying "[redacted]" into what they really should be. Or maybe I'll just post the phrases for you all to fill in the blanks :)

Did You Know?

Hey there gang! Just a quick little post today to let everyone know that my blogroll to the right is starting to look a bit empty. As people's blogs have gone more or less inactive I've been shuffling them down into an archive to keep the current stuff current, ya know? If you have a blog you'd like to see listed, just drop a comment on this post or shoot me an email; just make sure to include your Wizard's name (or community name, if you'd rather). No real names, please!!!

If you'd like to join the Bloggers' Club and get listed on the special page of the blog, use the link above, too!

3rd Annual Ravenwood Ball and Birthday Bash!!!

Hey guys! It's that time of year again! The 3rd Annual Ravenwood Ball & Birthday Bash is coming to the Spiral! For more information (and LOADS of contests!) be sure to check out Diary of a Wizard's big announcement HERE.

It was an absolute BLAST last year. This year I'm thinking something a little more...out there...or perhaps I can wrangle those Headaches from the Holidays together in costume! Only time will tell.

Q & A

Hey-o, guys and dolls. It just occurred to me that nobody really answers questions anymore. I'd like to change that. If ANYONE has any questions of any kind related to any game featured here (Wizard101 primarily, but also Runescape, Minecraft, League of Legends, and Star Trek Online) feel free to shoot me a line and I'll answer to the best of my ability. Since we're in a bit of a news slump right now I'm hoping that questions from you all, the players, will reinvigorate this blog. Make sure only to use email with your parents' permission if you are under the age of 13, and only send your wizard name (or Minecraft handle, Runescape name, STO name, etc.).

Short post, but hopefully that'll get some thoughts flowing. In other news, an image from Glitch.

I laughed hysterically at that and used my Snapshooting skill to quickly capture the image before it vanished. Woohoo!

Introducing Ishtar!

Hey there guys and dolls. Today I have exciting news! The second member of the Reserve Roster is ready for a big reveal. She's Abigail Mythhammer from A Mythspent Youth but for the HftH she'll be going by "Ishtar", the Babylonian Goddess of Love (among other things).  She's dressed more conventionally in the Red and White of Valentine's Day, though!

Welcome, Ishtar, to the Headaches from the Holidays Reserve Roster!!!

Introducing Miss America

This is Miss Taryn Dreamflower of the Headaches from the Holidays Reserve Roster. She's the first of the four with her costume together and we did some PvP with her last night to break her in and get things rolling. And she ROCKED! And what better timing to introduce Miss America than on Independence Day?! Welcome, Taryn, to the Headaches from the Holidays family of PvP teams.

Also, I hope to see everyone in the chatroom to watch the one and only Christina Icedreamer set off fireworks as she enters the Millionaire's Club!

Have a great and safe 4th!

Welcome Back Bailey!

It's been a while since I posted...and I realize this is late...but I had to give Mrs. Friendly her welcome back gift before I released the lyrics. That's right, yet another song on our "Music to PvP By" album (title pending). This one's set to One Direction's "What Makes You Beautiful".

Enjoy!

Your Friend Always,
John Lifeglen

P.S. The blue countdown for Icy's One in a Million now has the right time and everything. Be sure to be there on the 4th to see the smash-hit!

Blog Title Origin (and Housekeeping)

It has come to my attention that 150 (as of this post) posts in and most people still don't understand my blog title. I figured I'd give a little bit of info behind my thought process as I created this blog a couple of Mays ago why I chose to call this blog "Through the Eyes of a Sorcerer".

The truth of the matter is that I was at a complete loss for what to call it. Thinking about the school I couldn't think of anything very original to use. While mulling over a title before creating the blog, I happened to cast a Judgment and once again realize that she's blindfolded. And that's when the name struck me. I'm giving you an evaluation of the game from my Point of View. My perspective. It's through my eyes. But possibly the single most iconic Balance spell can't see a thing. Oh, the irony! And that's how I settled on it.

Since discovering the Fansite Kit, I've always included the balance doodle girl that's blindfolded. I had hoped this little head-nod to Judgment would tell people, but I guess it was too out there to make a connection. It's hard to say if I hadn't thought of it if I'd have even made the connection.

In other news, I cracked a single Hoard of the Hydra open and got the quintessential mount for Sorcerers everywhere. The Hydra! If the Great Hornocerous was the taxi of the Spiral, then the Hydra is the tour bus. Those of you at the Ravenwood Radio after-party tonight (assuming there is one, I have no power or background knowledge, I'm merely speaking from past experience) might see the Hydra and I might be willing to give rides.

That's all I've got for you today, folks. Have a super Wednesday.

John Lifeglen

Twitter Policies

It's sad that it has to come to this, but I need to get it all written down somewhere. I'm instating an actual Twitter "Who I'll Follow" policy. A couple of these items might seem absurd, but they're [sadly] necessary. Let's get this rolling.

  1. For the safety of all parties, I will only follow community members that behave or can prove that they are of legal age (18). If you are under the age of 18, please do not ask to be followed. I am not opposed to seeing tweets that you make; just mention me @JohnLifeglen. I use Tweetdeck and will see all mentions made at me. The only item that won't work is the DM.
  2. If you constantly change your handle, picture, and name and I can no longer recognize you well enough to remember following you, you will be unfollowed and not refollowed. It's highly confusing to keep track of people constantly changing your identity. To be successful in the community, make friends, and fully enjoy yourself it is better to foster and grow one identity to make recognition easier. For more information about building a brand, check here.
  3. If you are trying to represent yourself as an employee of KingsIsle by using a picture, name, and handle of an NPC and are not employed by KingsIsle, you will not be followed.
  4. Any unnecessary DMs (messages that could just as easily be said through a regular Twitter mention that doesn't pertain to a private matter) such as "Hello, how are you?" will result in being unfollowed. My DMs column is often full to bursting with organizing and planning between people and trying to sift the important messages from the pointless messages takes more time than I have.
  5. If you tweet at me for a "#followback", chances are I won't follow you. Doing this is begging for attention in the eyes of many and does not make you look like you're of age for me to follow you [Item 1].
  6. I reserve the right to make exceptions to any of these rules for special cases.
I apologize for any inconvenience these new policies might cause, but it's for the best. I reserve the right to make revisions as I see fit. A copy of these rules will be added to the top portion of my blog in the tabs bar for easy reference. These rules will apply to all of my blogs.

Your Friend Always,
John Lifeglen

Progress

It's been a while since I last posted, and there's good reason for that. There's been a lack of news for Pirate101 lately, and that's kept me from being super active. Today, though, progress is occurring. The Fansite Kit for Pirate101 has now been released (as many of you could probably guess from the new header). I can't tell you how excited I am to be getting even tiny little bits of new information.  Everything looks great, and I can't wait to be playing in another part of our Spiral with old friends and making new ones along the way.

There's also some exciting news for KingsIsle! Pirate101 is already taking the world by storm and winning some awards.  Dad Lab has also made a video. And for those pen-and-paper game lovers, check out this great link!

I know it's short and sweet, but that's all I've got for you today. Hope you all have a wonderful week and enjoy the new kit from Pirate101 as much as I did!

Reserve Roster

It's no secret that I enjoy PvP with the right group of people. The Headaches from the Holidays are fantastic, and the comedy combination of Bailey Skystaff, Heather Raven, Maria Moonblossom and I is stellar. Win or lose, we keep having a good time. It has come to my attention that not enough people actually enjoy PvP anymore because of the gaps between school power levels and resistances (and Ice is on top...in a big way). Some of the super-teams are just too super. Ranked isn't being played nearly as much. The Headaches' goal has never been to "win", I mean, we rarely even play ranked. We just want to have a good time with our friends.  And did I mention that we wear goofy costumes?!

One of my friends offered to stand in for us if we ever needed a 4th person while someone was away. Another great friend mentioned wishing a 2nd team existed with our attitude. And that sparked the idea. Why not have a reserve roster of 4 people to stand in if someone was unavailable. Basically a team of 8 players who could all interchange roles. We could play anywhere from 2v2-4v4 with a HUGE array of teams. And since the goal is to have fun instead of just winning, changing characters wouldn't be a huge issue. This "Reserve Roster" if you will will be, in essence, its own complete team with a separate identity from our own. We would simply be "allied teams" and willing to play together on a whim or whenever any combination of the 4 of us are around.

3 of the spots are taken up now, with only one remaining. There's no restriction on school (and if you have multiple wizards, that's cool too!). The only requirement is a good attitude and a willingness to make a holiday-related costume. Only one of each holiday can be represented, so Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, and Halloween are already finished. Some suggestions include St. Patrick's Day, Valentine's Day, The 4th of July (because we exist on the US server), and Earth Day. I'm open to further suggestions. Let me know via comment, email, or twitter if you're interested in filling the final spot! We'll start rallying those troops together once we get the 4th team member.

John Lifeglen

Cap'n Autumn's At It Again!

First, go read THIS.  Then, consider those as rules to blog by.  These are both important steps before we dive into things here.

These guidelines are an important piece of how to blog well. Specifically the one about keeping private disputes private. Nothing turns blog readers away faster than seeing rant posts at another person. If you need to rant about how [BossX] refuses to drop [HatY] for [Z] amount of time, go for it! Those are often the most colorful (and sometimes helpful!) posts for readers, because if they're having issues they know they aren't alone. If you need to sort out personal matters with someone, though, and it's not a friendly war going on (Friendly and Autumn, anyone?) you need to find their blog and track down contact information (not post rude comments on their posts).

Speaking of comments, it's often a good idea to keep your comments set to moderated. This way if any trolls decide to start posting, you can protect your readership. Having comments set to moderated also helps if you're running a contest where they submit entries via comment.

That's all I've got for today.  Sorry the posts are short, sweet, and so few and far between. There's just not a lot I talk about until things get rolling. Stick with me, because once this game takes off I'll be all kinds of all over it.

Wizaversary Bash 2012

So....Updates. Avalon was great. Had a lot of fun. Got my sword of Kings. Currently debating whether or not to craft some gear, as my pip chance will be absolutely abysmal without anything.

Now for the big announcement. I'm going to have to move my party. Something has come up here in reality and I just can't make the 19th anymore. While celebrating Through the Eyes of a Sorcerer's 2nd birthday with John Lifeglen's 3rd birthday (they happened on the same day, completely unintentionally. Odd how stuff happens, eh?) would be great, I just can't swing it. Family stuff has popped up all spur-of-the-moment like and threw a massive Monquistan wrench into things. I'll be editing the information where appropriate and shooting to reschedule sometime soon. Sorry. The tournament only had 2 interested players, though, so it's not a huge loss.

Your Friend Always,
John Lifeglen

PS. Made it a whole post without any of those super-weird interruptions. Woohoo!

Themes are Fun!

New header, new siggy on any forum I use, new avatar EVERYWHERE. Heck, even my Facebook and Google+ got makeovers. When I talked about "Branding Yourself" a few posts back, I meant it. Here you can see just how far that goes. This current set is for level 80. I don't *plan* to change anything again until about level 90...but plans can change. Also, if any of you can figure out what the theme is with this one you'll get +250 Awesome Points with me. To give you a hit, I'll show you my siggy.

That's in extra-large mode to make it easier on everyone. Even the font is directly related to the theme (note the broken "O"s).

In other news, fans of Code Lyoko will be interested to know that I located a simulation game where you get to be Jeremie!  That's right, friends. You get to virtualize Aelita and the gang to stop XANA and save the world. Once you figure THIS out it goes super smoothly and it a lot of fun. And rumor has it XANA might be coming back...

>What in the name of sanity is that thing?

>It's a tangram. I solve tangrams now. Tangrams are cool.

Weird. Hopefully nothing is going wonky with Blogger....I wonder if that's XANA back at work or something of a different nature.

Episode One Hundred and Forty Four: In Which John Lifeglen is an Archmage

Tonight I dinged the big 8-0 in the Crystal Caves. We're logging out right after talking to the [redacted] and defeating the [redacted] to [redacted] the [redacted]. We also turned in the Crows and the Tapestries. It's been a productive night so far. I think we're heading to bed and planning to finish up everything tomorrow at some point (when, I'm not so sure. Graduation parties to attend for friends and family!).

Just that brief update for everyone. Hope you all have a great weekend and hopefully I get around to writing more soon!

Thomas Dings Support!

There are so many words I could use, but I'll keep with short with a hearty Congratulations, you'll go so far! I can't wait to see what is planned in Pirate101 and beyond. May the wind be always to your back and the sun ahead. Good luck with this new chapter in your story.

NDA is No Joking Matter

Until we get to some Pirate101 content, this blog will be a journal of thoughts on related topics. Last night, someone divulged information. Just a couple of small details, yes, nothing ground-or-game-breaking, but information nonetheless. Anyone who has ever been involved in Alpha or many Closed Betas can tell you that NDA is not a joking matter. It's a legally binding contract and can have some serious repercussions.

Now, nobody involved in the Alpha for Pirate101 confirmed the information (nor could they, NDA again), so it could just be someone trying to sound important with no actual knowledge of the game. If they are involved in testing right now, they may not be for long if KingsIsle discovers what is going on.

My advice to any gamer who gets involved in a game during Alpha or Beta (if it's not open, at the very least) is to bite your tongue, shake your head no at everything saying "I can't tell you that, I'm under NDA", and hide under a rock until NDA is lifted if you think spoilers are going to be a problem.

Not all games have an NDA, though. Games like The Missing Ink have been sharing updates for some time now and are in Open Alpha. Everyone is allowed to talk about it if they want to. Accounts can be created by virtually anyone. You'll know if there's NDA, as it is pushed a bit harder than the TOS.

Have a great Tuesday, I'm off to work and finals.

Avacyn Restored Prerelease

Hey guys! Just a quick note to let everyone know Avacyn Restored is going up for sale THIS FRIDAY! I played in both days of Prerelease Tournaments and can say that it's one of the best looking sets I've played in (and I have 2 prior prereleases to compare it to, now.). I didn't pull any game-breakers, but hopefully in the few packs I purchase I'll get some of the cards I wanted. If not, I'm sure I'll be building decks around the other awesome cards in the set. I really want the three dual-colored Legendary Angels, but I won't hold my breath.

Converted Mana Costs (CMC) for the following (in case you don't want to click the links). If you actually want to know what they do, go ahead and click!

Bruna, Light of Alabaster [3][W][W][U]

Gisela, Blade of Goldnight [4][R][W][W]

Sigarda, Host of Herons [2][G][W][W]

If anyone can tell me what their nicknames are from and why they might be called that, you'll gain +5 awesome points with me.  I'm personally most excited about Sigarda.

Pirate101 Talk

I'm *always* late on the bandwagon with this kind of post. I guess I just wouldn't be me if I wasn't, just like a certain Necromancer wouldn't be herself if she wasn't always at least one world behind! For those of you who haven't crawled out from under your rocks lately, Pirate101 is coming. I've already added the link in the sidebar under KI operated sites. It looks to be interesting so far. Here's a play-by-play of my thought process as I heard about it.

Initial reaction:
OH MY BARTLEBY! A PIRATE GAME!

Followed by:
This feels a bit...I don't know...cheap. Recycling the 101? Using the same character models? *continues reading* Same universe even? Same lore..."we are not amused".

Followed by:
Ya know, re-using the 101 is a great tie in, and the same models and universe and established lore is a wonderful marketing ploy. I approve. It doesn't look turn-based. That's a plus.

And finally:
It's turn based. Wah. But it's different. I'll give it a shot, at least. Hopefully I'll be wonderfully surprised like I was with Wizard101. I just hope it's possible to get the same name and appearance. I have so many identities as it is x_x

And I've already created a new blogger for it, just in case I can't get the same name. I know I blog here about Star Trek Online once in a while, but keeping both games by KI separate (primarily because of the look) could be very important in not confusing people. If I can use the same name and appearance (physical, not gear.), I'll probably just stick with one blog. It'll change colors and titles, but otherwise will be a conglomeration. If not, I guess I'll be maintaining 2 blogs. I might, anyway. My URL is already reserved for it, and while I won't tell you what it is, I can tell you that you should expect many similarities between this blog and that one. A countdown to a certain new podcast is already up and everything is in place.

We'll see where the Skyways take us.

Pirate101

Pirate101...the second game by KingsIsle Entertainment to offer a family-friendly environment and turn based gameplay. It was announced on April 25, 2012. I heard about it over twitter. This blog, Through the Eyes of a Privateer, will outline the game and the adventures it holds for me. That is, as soon as I'm able to play it.  Here's to many adventures on the high-skys!

I Bought a Pack...Say Wha?

Yep, folks. You read the title right. I bought some of the new Emperor's Attic packs and I liked it.

But John! You're so vehemently anti-pack!!! What are you thinking?!

Thank you, random internet personality, for voicing that for me. This is the first pack I've actually enjoyed. Why, you ask? It's all furniture (save for some seeds. Which are still sort of pseudo-housing). There are no junky reagents, treasure cards, gear that's no better than what I'm wearing, or over-hyped mounts and pets anywhere in it. Instead, we got over 60 NEW housing items, 8 of which are interactive. The Tag Game is in it, and while I didn't get it there I did win one from Paige Moonshade. Tag is AWESOME! If you don't want to test your luck with the packs, it will be craftable when Avalon hits the live realms.

That's really all I posted to say. This Hoard has my blessing. It's not stuffed full of all old junk that nobody wants or needs, it's not all filler. There are minimal old items in it (such as the Shrines from MooShu) and I can honestly say that I got at least 2 new items per pack every time, usually more.

Oh, and I'm going to open up my Sun Palace tomorrow night for a game of Tag. Possibly multiple games of tag. My Sun Palace is actually going to be a Headquarters for the Council of Light. It's decorated for the most part currently, complete with Aurum and Argentum guarding the gates (+5 points to the first person to comment the literal inspiration for their names, and +10 points to the first person to tell me which book series the names are actually pulled from). The house won't be completely complete until we can mount wands on our walls, but it's coming! I'm so excited and ready for it. Big plans!

So...Tag tomorrow (well, tonight). 4/24/2012. Let's meet in the Myth School Tower, Lincoln Area 1 at 5:15 PM CST. Teleport Bus will be a baby John Lifeglen (Do NOT report for impersonations, please!!!). We'll arrive at Headquarters at 5:30 to begin the game!!! Baby Lifeglen will be wearing a Plain Pumpkin Mask with Black and Orange Guardian Robes and Boots and wielding an Ascendant Staff. Hopefully he'll stand out enough to catch your attention!

Hope to see you then!

Branding Yourself

In an online community, it's important to broadcast yourself the same way through all of your platforms. In the Wizard101 Community, for instance, you should choose one wizard name and stick with it. Avatars can be different across the map, sure, but if you really want to build recognition it's important to build your own "brand" that you can be proud of. Some brands only require a name (aka The Friendly Necromancer) to have everyone on board as to who you're talking about.  Some involve a certain style about them or the pictures they use. Some (like mine) try to tie everything together.

By "brand" I mean something easily identifiable as YOU.  Changing your name constantly on Twitter can make it difficult for followers to know who they're following.

My brand involves a lot of recycling images and colors. My Avatar for Blogger, Wizard101 Central, Diary of a Wizard ConnectX, my Wizard101 Facebook, Wizard101 Twitter, and Wizard101 Google+ all use the same base image. My Twitter one always has the "Support Diarykids Twibbon" on it, but you can still see that it's me. My Signature on Wizard101  Central is made to match the current avatar. I've taken it a step further now, even. I'll update my Header here whenever I create a new set of Avatar and Signature pictures. My Google+ and Facebook cover banners will be getting updates at the same time. I've chosen a specific orange and a specific brown that I'll be using (for now, and it's subject to change) in everything that I do, along with choosing a specific font.

But that's just me. If you're random and like having all kinds of different things going on, that's not necessarily a bad thing. That's your brand, just like I have mine. Make it you. Good branding doesn't have to be cookie-cutter and perfectly matched up. Good branding says "Hi. This is something that [YourNameHere] did." and makes it fully obvious what else goes with your stuff. I find that easiest by giving it a common thread.

Be it a name, a color scheme, a general font or picture, or any combination of those. Make it you, because you're the only you the world has.

Sword of Kings Comparison Data

I was poking around Wizard101 Central this morning after a Business Law exam and did some research on the new Sword of Kings. Apparently it's a level 70 sword with some rather impressive stats...for certain schools. Balance is getting the short end of the proverbial stick once more, it seems. All of the wands give the +1 Power Pip at the start of a match, OK. All of them give some degree of Critical Rating. OK there, too. What kills me, though, is that Life and Balance are so grossly outmatched when it comes to the rest of the stats. I'll let this handy dandy table I put together speak for itself.

*Fire should be +32 Block Rating, not +35. I apologize for the typo!

That should be pretty easy to read. I arranged the columns in Critical-Ascending order. In theory, the Block row should descend and match up perfectly. Hmm...Nope. Something's broken here.

Notice anything about the Life column? Oh, it's missing a little thing called Critical Block? Oops...

These swords also give something like +4 copies of a wand strike for 130 damage in the appropriate school and +1 trap card for +10% damage. All of them have that (though I haven't seen pictures of the Balance sword, only the stats, so it could very easily be getting short-changed there, too.).

A simple switcheroo like this would make the chart look much prettier. Increase Balance's critical rating by 1, then move Death's block to Myth and shift Myth and Balance Block both one to the right. Ascending/Descending works again! Wasn't that easy?

I'm not one to complain without looking at the facts, and these facts point to Balance and Life getting seriously shorted here.

And May the Odds be Ever in Your Favor

Any fan of The Hunger Games is bound to be both excited and terrified when hearing this line. Unlike "That, is Mahogany!", the title of this post sums up the feeling of an entire nation on a single day every year.

Last year, I attempted to host a Hunger Games tournament in Wizard101. After all, our PvP, much like The Hunger Games, takes place in an Arena. The project was ultimately too over-the-top to grasp the interest of the masses, and the delicate timing was going to cause problem.

Now, my Wizaversary is coming in just over a month. My 3rd Wizaversary, to be exact. I'd like very much to host a small party in a Hunger Games fashion for my bash; and rather than asking for gifts, I'll be shelling out prizes! The problem with something stylized to match The Hunger Games is, of course, the "one person against the world" and "Highlander, there can be only one" mechanics. For this revised attempt, we'll try a 1v1 tournament. It is recommended that all participants be of the current highest level (be it 70 or 80, depending on the timing. If timing proves to be HIGHLY unfortunate, additional gear/spell restrictions will be imposed) at the time of the event. There will be 14 players. One male and one female from each school of focus.

Oh, and when is the event? The kickoff will take place on May the 19th (assuming there isn't a hitch in the scheduling and I have to move it. I reserve the right to move the date) at 8:00 PM CST. I have no delusions about finishing multiple rounds in one night, so the conclusion of the tournament will be based on how quickly events move along. After the kickoff, anyone advancing will be contacted to schedule further matches. And pairings won't be announced before the match in order to keep with the suspense of not knowing your enemy.

Entering is quite simple; you need only comment on this post to enter yourself. Make sure to include your Wizard's name and school of focus (and current level) Remaining in the tournament is another story entirely. You'll be fighting other wizards before you enter the Arena for your right to play. The Volunteers.

And what of the "Volunteers"? If you see someone entering the tournament and wish to take their place, simply post "I volunteer as tribute in place of [name].". If you are deadset on participating, you'll then need to choose a new school to play from, a different gendered character in the same school, or volunteer to take their place. The last person to volunteer for each school and gender will be the 14 in the bracket. Check back often to make sure you're still the acting participant!

In The Hunger Games, the winner received additional food for their District for a year and all of the glory that comes with it. I can't provide food per say, but I can shell out either two Mega-snack Packs or four Evil Magma Pea seeds. The choice will be for the winner to make.

The tournament will NOT take place if I don't have a full set of 14 tributes. If that happens, the party will instead be free PvP by all. Additional information about how the tournament will function to come soon. May the odds be ever in your favor.

If any of you would like to be "Gamemakers" and host a match in the tournament in an Arena you own, let me know (either by comment, tweet, or e-mail. There's a mailto linked in the top section talking about countdowns.)! The Arena is always supposed to throw tricks at the opponents and different surroundings are always interesting. It's a chance to show off your decoration skills!

Isn't it Cute?!

This isn't a Wizard101 post. It's another Star Trek Online post! I was wandering around ESD (Earth Spacedock) and came across this cute little captain. So tiny. Playing with her pet Sehlat Cub. Until I clicked her and realized she was a Vice Admiral ready to kill Borg in a single blow! Looks can be deceiving!

School Pet Idea

The school pets are revealed for level 78...and quite a few people aren't all that thrilled. I got to thinking during the Ravenwood Radio afterparty (by the way, you NEED to download RR#62 from iTunes when it's released. Trust me!) that it would be cool to get a piggle as a school pet. A piggle with a school symbol on the belly. You could even dye it to match your style! That's all I had for you, just a quick little post. Lemme know what you think!

Spells of Avalon

There's been quite a bit of discussion going on over at Wizard101 Central over the 28 new spells included with the Avalon patch. I'm writing up as much as I can about each of them, and then opening the comments section up to discussion. Rather than talking about each spell by level, I'm going to be giving chunks of information by school so we can see how each made out overall.

At level 70 each school (save for balance) receives a "Mass SchoolName Prism" that puts a prism on all enemies for 2 pips. At level 80 each school (save for balance) receives a SchoolNameSpear. Those all give +10% Armor Piercing to next SchoolName Spell. Balance receives nothing at level 70 and receives 2 Spear spells at level 80. Elemental Spear and Spirit Spear. Both give +6% Armor Piercing to the related schools.

Ice:
Level 72: Snowdrift. 2 Pips. Steal one HoT (Heal over Time).
Level 75: Cooldown. 3 Pips. Remove 1 tick from all DoT (Damage over Time) effects.

Fire:
Level 72: Detonate. 4 Pips. Destroy 1 DoT and deal 100% Damage.
Level 75: Backdraft. X Pips. +15% Per Pip to next Fire Spell.

Storm:
Level 72: Enfeeble. 3 Pips. Remove all positive charms from enemy.
Level 75: Healing Current. 4 Pips. 3 Pips. 1100 Healing to target or 10000 Moon Damage to self.
100, 400, or 1000 Heal.
Life:
Level 72: Master Triage. 3 Pips. Removes one DoT from all friends.
Level 75: Guardian Spirit. 5 Pips. Regain 25% Health after being defeated.

Death:
Level 72: Master Infection. 4 Pips. 3 Pips. -50% to next heal for all enemies.
Level 75: Bad Juju. 1 Pip. 4 Pips. 500 Damage to self, put -90% damage charm on opponent.

Myth:
Level 72: Shift. 4 Pips. 6 Pips. Push one DoT to target.
Level 75: Dimension Shift. 3 Pips. Trade all hanging effects with minion.

Balance:
Level 72: Mana Burn. 5 Pips. Deal damage to target based on number of pips. Deal 80 damage per pip your opponent has and remove 3 pips.
Level 75: Supernova. 9 Pips. 2 Pips. Target with active aura takes 535 damage. Target Aura is destroyed, dealing 535 damage.

Ice seems to have made out OK. The already difficult-to-kill tank class now has more spells at their disposal based around surviving longer. It'll make future PvP much more interesting...and likely much more challenging against all-ice (or 3 ice and a life) teams.

Fire also made out fairly well. Detonate will (from my understanding) take any ticks that are on the target and blow them up, dealing the full amount of damage that would be dealt at once. Backdraft looks to work like Supercharge, taking all of your pips and putting them into a trap. This could be lethal with an Efreet! Just make sure to put it on after you apply the Mass Fire Prism.

Storm got lucky with Enfeeble. Being able to strip massive amounts of stacked blades in one fell swoop and leaving your infections and dispels you worked so hard to place. Healing Current looks like a bit of a joke to me. With no solid way to defend against moon damage it seems as though it's not meant to be cast. The only way I can see it being useful is as a heal if you've got 3+ stackable weaknesses. Or as a way to "Heal or die" to remove ticks or save your life, either way. It has its uses...it's just a bit of a catch 22.

Life made out WONDERFULLY! Master Triage is going to be a fantastic defense against Snow Angel and Rain of Fire spammers. Guardian Spirit looks very nice, as well. Being able to put an "If, then" effect on you seems like a wonderful addition.

Death has finally received the spell they've been begging for for as long as I can remember. Master Infection finally applies a heal negation to the entire team. Spritely will still be a problem to manage with it, though. Bad Juju looks a lot like Dark Pact. Following the classic "hurt myself to hinder the opponent" mantra that is necromancy, it could be great. Assuming they add in "cannot critical" to it ;). With the pip cost changes on 4/11, Bad Juju won't be a spam issue if you have a Spritely happy pet. The reduction in Master Infection's cost is nice, but ultimately disappointing as I expect spam will happen much easier now. Especially since Empower gives you 3 pips...

Myth receives a couple of interesting spells. Shift will work like a "redirect" of sorts on DoTs, moving them "return to sender" style (or return to other team's healer ;) ). Dimension Shift (which I wouldn't have named that way. It doesn't behave the same as Shift. Dimension Shift would imply moving one DoT from each ally to each enemy in my opinion.) Trades all "hanging effects" with your minion. I'm not sure what's included with "hanging effects". To me, that would be any and all wards, charms, traps, and ticks (both HoT and DoT). It's interesting to think about. I can't wait to see some of the uses for it.  With the change to Shift on 4/14 from 4 pips to 6, I see it being used much less often now. Let's get Snowdrift increased in pip cost now, too, or Ice will become even more unbalanced and overpowered.

And finally Balance. I could write a novel about why I'm disappointed with it but I'll spare you. I was seriously hoping Balance might finally get a shield, blade, trap, prism, something. Instead we receive two sets of "Spears" that do less piercing than their individual counterparts and cost a pip, to boot. We receive Mana Burn for 5 pips (instead of the 0 on the Test Realm currently that caused a royal rhubarb on Wizard101 Central). It looks like it'll be fun, especially if it eats through an opponent's pips like it claims. I'm expecting it to be nerfed and possibly made more expensive, though. Only time will tell.  My only thought is that balance can't play support if our pips are constantly being cranked into these larger spells. And the Spear spells scream support, because they'll stack with the school-specific counterparts. Only time will tell, I suppose.  THIS JUST IN. The 9 pip spell for balance is a royal piece of junk! 9 pips to deal 535 damage to ONE opponent IF the opponent is under an aura? No thank you. Balance gets nothing from this new update whatsoever!  I can honestly say I am not excited about anything new that Balance is getting.  How disappointing.

As of 4/11, Mana Burn is no longer "broken" like so many people considered it. Rather than removing a rack of pips, it is limited to removing 5 now. It also deals 80 damage per pip. I'm not certain if this is per power pip (as though the caster had used it) or based on your school casting an out-of-class spell. Supernova is MUCH more exciting now. The pip cost has been reduced by a whopping 7.  It does still strip blades/traps/shields (to an extent) but only those that could stack (ie. not 2 of the same Tower). We aren't sure if this is intended yet or not, and as I know more I'll let you all in on the secret.  It strips the Aura and deals flat damage. Consider it a Detonate for Aura spells. Still situational, but I'm willing to give it a chance now.

Life is Like a Waffle

While creeping around Facebook waiting for Jenad's (my baby redshirt) assault match to go, I stumbled across this very profound message in my newsfeed. I copied/pasted it for you all to see. It's brilliant (and I cannot possibly take credit).

"This morning (night for most of you), I had a revelation. Life is a waffle, each day is a little square in that waffle, and we are whoever is eating our waffle of a life. Some days are hard and crusty and not very tasty, some are very buttery but not at all sweet, some are sweet but not buttery, some are too soggy with sweet and butter, and some squares are JUST RIGHT. not very many... But there are many that are delicious even if they're not perfect. I wish you all delicious squares, and more perfect ones."

May your lives be full of perfect squares. That's all.

Children on the Internet

I swear, if I've said it once I've said it a million times. Children (under age 18) and social media outlets don't mix. I'll be going through the list of people I follow on Twitter and trimming it down. Troublemakers can also be expected to get the boot. Because I use Tweetdeck, I'll still see anything directed at me and I'll gladly respond, but don't expect me to see everything you tweet about. I've got enough going on that seeing the garbage that gets put out there wastes my time and I have no desire to sift through arguments to get to something important.

I also realize not all of you cause problems. One bad apple has once again spoiled the entire bushel.

Have a nice day,
John Lifeglen

Songs to PvP By

Howdy! Last time on Through the Eyes of a Sorcerer, I shared my most recent song parody with you all. This time, I'm curious as to what you think would make a solid PvP related song for Wizard101 for the album Songs to PvP By: Hits from Headaches from the Holidays. It's not a real album...yet. But with enough time and songs I might put something together and even try my hand at getting them all recorded (not me singing, but I know a couple of very musically talented young ladies!).

I just sent out a tweet asking for ideas for the next couple, and I'd also like to open up the floor to those without Twitter accounts! Comment on this post with your song title/artist and I'll see what I can do. The more support a song gets, the more likely I am to consider it. If it's an obscure song, please provide a link to it on YouTube for me to find easily!

Not a full post, just a brief update to give you the 2nd track from the "Headaches from the Holidays PvP Soundtrack". It's a parody of Glad You Came.

The rest of the team hasn't even seen this one yet; I just finished it up quickly tonight :)

Upcoming Changes: Thought Process

Hey gang. Happy almost-St. Patrick's Day to everyone out there. Wizard101 is running a special deal on many green items from the Crown Shop to honor it. Sure, green is associated with St. Patrick (along with running all of the snakes out of Ireland...does that mean Thaumaturges and Diviners aren't allowed on Ireland?), but did you know his favorite color was reportedly blue? We also celebrate the day that St. Patrick died. Not his day of birth. It's also my birthday. If you look at my Wizard101 Facebook, it's listed as May 19th. That's John Lifeglen's day of creation (because I'd forget otherwise!),  not my real one.

The title of the post is actually about what's going to be happening to Through the Eyes of a Sorcerer and the thought process thus far. Let's get right into it.

I'm considering renaming/reworking what this blog is about. I don't have the time or energy to put into multiple blogs, but I play more games than Wizard101. That being said, I like writing about all of them now and again. The most logical solution is to simply incorporate it all in here. I already write more about other games than I had ever initially planned. I haven't written about Wizard101 in quite a while now.  Why keep advertising that I operate a blog about Wizard101 when there are other titles featured regularly here?

Why haven't I been posting about Wizard101? I just haven't really been playing Wizard101 all that often. The Headaches from the Holidays are having scheduling problems so we can't really PvP, and that was my main reason for logging in. We'll pick it up again sometime, I just don't know when. What have I been doing, then? I've been in STO quite a bit. I now have a level 25 Tactical Trill and a level 15 Engineering Vulcan, Jenad and Sovak respectively. I've been logging in to spin the wheel on Runescape every day.

The steady stream of hoard packs just doesn't make me want to log in. New content =/= new hoard for me. And now that we have to buy packs to try and learn spells, I'm as under-motivated as ever. I would actually use the Samoorai spell, but I won't get that chance because I can't afford to keep trying my luck to get it. I'd probably use the Goat Monk, too. Oh well.

Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day. Everyone, please celebrate responsibly. Drink a green-food-colored can of Sprite or something if you feel the need to have a green beverage (or a mint chocolate chip milkshake ;) ).

John Lifeglen

Give That Girl some Megas

Heather Raven, I commend thee.  The contest from the previous post is now closed. Heather wins the Megas!

Here's her answer:

It seems that 'NX' stands for Naval Experiment. River Song is of course the character from Doctor Who. 4022 were saved at the LIBRARY (hence the "L"), in the Who episode "Silence in the Library". So from that information we can gather that the significance of this picture is the fact that you are obsessed with Doctor Who and the character River Song in particular, even when you are playing a Star Trek game. :P

That answer is 100% correct. River has an interesting storyline. To be honest, I already had a ship named the Gallifreyan (I forget the number off hand, but the letter was D). Naming ships is tough...especially when you get a new one for free every 10 levels. I lack creativity apparently because I couldn't come up with more names! (Of note to those Who fans out there, someone had the USS Stormageddon. I laughed until my sides hurt. #winning.)

She's convinced I'm trying to get her into STO. Well, I'd like more people to try it and play it. It's not a huge deal though. I just wanted to get more people Who-savvy than anything. Hehe.

Your Friend Always,
John Lifeglen

Info Dump Ahead

Stardate 86134.58, Captain's Log Supplemental:

[Admiral Maxis]
Warning, warning, danger, danger. You are about to enter a land of random thoughts all strung together at once trying to get it all out in text before I forget the details. Also, the post is VERY long. It's not all text, though. The bottom half (...3/4) houses lots of pictures from my adventures in Star Trek!

I am now a Vice Admiral (level 50) in Star Trek Online. STO's level cap happens to be 50. I have also joined Tipa's fleet (the Federation News Service). We did some raiding tonight. It was fun. Tipa's guides to the normal level STF (Special Task Force) raid-y-esque things are SUPER useful. We thwarted Borg and helped save Defera and realized that we need to go save Defera more. A *lot* more. There's a great new Frequency Remodulator that we all really want because it shaves a second off of...ya know what, STO is F2P now. Go see for yourself why shaving a second off is wonderful (and just what the heck I'm talking about).

I've also unpacked my Odyssey Class Cruiser. I'm not using it...yet...but will soon. I'm still in the Deep Space Science Vessel for now. It's awesome.

All of my Bridge Officers (BOs) are dressed for the current Feature Episode Series called "The 2800". For Trekkies in the room, yes, the Dominion are back. Funky stuff happened with the Wormhole. There's lots of fighting. Bajor is the current outpost. Good stuff. My toon (and his entire BO compliment of 12) is dressed up for the occasion in Deep Space 9-esque attire. It's awesome.

I have written a parody for Headaches from the Holidays. We're joking about a "Top 40 Redux" Parody album of sorts *just* for our PvP matches. It's called "Click Quick" and matches the tune of "Tik Tok". The 2nd parody for the album is in production and will be known as "Long Match" set to "Bad Romance".
Also with the Headaches we played another ranked match. My Warlord rank got us pitted against a 4 Warlord team. We hung in for 4 hours (v.v) but in the end got nuked. Good news: I'm just a Commander now. No more Warlord. Maybe that will mean smoother sailing for us.

Fun fact. Andoria is the closest habitable planet to Earth in the Star Trek Universe. Vulcan is incredibly close to us, too. They're just on the other side of Andoria.

More pictures! My ship interior. It's HUGEEE! And a picture of the Admiral's Jacket thing full-size.

And, if you read allllllll the way through all of that, there's a contest here. You have until Friday, February 24th 2012 at Midnight CST to come up with the signifigance of the following picture. It's a shot of my ship. You need to tell me who and what the name is in reference to, what "NX" stands for in a Starfleet Ship's name, and what the 4 numbers following the "9" (because 9 must be on all of the ships, I couldn't adjust it) mean. Also, explain what the letter following the number represents.  All parts must be correct in order to receive the prize. If you make a mistake with your first entry, feel free to comment again. No comments will be published until a winner has been declared or the time limit is up.

Hints: The letter references a place. The numbers represent something associated with that place. The ship's name is the biggest clue, and therefore I can't tell you anything about it!

The winner (if there is one) will receive a Mega Snack Pack, courtesy of me. (If you are here due to my character's "Comments" section and you win, I'll come up with a nifty gift for you in STO. Possibly a nice BO candidate.  If I know you in both, it's totally your choice where you get the goodies.) If nobody gets it, well, my pets don't mind megas one little bit! Comment on this post with the answer rather than sending in e-mails. Time-stamping entries is easiest that way.
